Con Air 2 winging its way into production?

Director Simon West fancies it

Con Air isn’t a high-brow work of art. But it is a massive, crowd-pleasing action movie with giant set-pieces and John Malkovich at his crazy-eyed best.

Which is perhaps why director Simon West is suddenly interested in returning to that beefed-up universe with a belated sequel.

While promoting his new movie The Mechanic, West spoke to Crave Online about the possibility of Con Air 2:

“I’d like to do [it]. It’d be great. It’s a matter of getting everybody together. There’s so many people involved and it’s about getting everybody to agree.

“But I’m going to bring it up to Nic[olas Cage]. I’m going to put a bug in his ear about it. If the two of us want to do it, we’ll go after the others.”

We're for it, but only if Cage agrees to wear the mullet again. It's a dealbreaker.

How? It hardly sets up for a sequel. And what's going to happen? He's just somehow going to end up on another prisoner transport plane which also happens to get hijacked? Maybe it'll be a few years down the line and his daughter will have grown up really distant from him because he was consumed by work and now she's on the plane and he has to save her and incidentally save their relationship and wrap it all up with a s****y set up for Con Air 3. And you know it'll happen as well. As much as I love Nic Cage he does have a masterful inability to turn down a s**t film.

I agree, I would love to see a sequel but cant really see how they would do it. Typical scenarios would be that yes it would somehow involve the daughter (or at the least her being kidnapped towards the final third), or the brother of Cyrus Grissom (lets call him Geoff) would be seeking some kind of revenge against Mr Poe. Maybe they will change it to a train carrying convicts (that seems to be the sequel trend - Under Siege & Snakes On A Plane). Im pretty sure all the con's were killed off though apart from his buddy Baby-O (maybe he gets into some trouble and Poe has to save his a*s) & Garland Greene, but I cant imagine the latter getting up to anything that would drag Poe out of retirement. Any-who, if it does go ahead I for one will still give it my hard earned pocket money at the local multiplex, bunnies back in boxes people.......

Luckily for us, Cage isnt an AK-TOR and action films arent beneath him and The Stath will have to be the bad guy.

This is one film that doesn't need a sequel, the first one was perfect for what it is. They should just leave it alone and NOT do a lame sequel that tarnishes the first eg speed 2.
