Cowboys & Aliens saddles up

The graphic novel adapted

Cowboys & Aliens is one of those projects that has been nudging its way through development hell ever since the graphic novel hit shelves in 2006.

Boasting a superbly cinematic concept, Scott Mitchell Rosenberg’s idea finds cowboys and Apaches battling in 1800s Arizona when their clash is rudely interrupted by a space ship crash landing. While the alien invaders plan to make the humans their slaves, the warring parties decide that ET really needs to be sent home packing and decides to fight.

DreamWorks and Universal have teamed up to beat several other Hollywood players to the punch and make the story into a movie, with Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby writing the script.

There’s no word yet on a director or cast.
