Whether it’s deftly portraying a gentle old farmer or a corrupt cop who’s liable to go a little bit mental, James Cromwell is surely one of the greatest unsung supporting actors working today.
The Californian thesp has just signed on the line to star in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, along with the usual crowd of Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco. Cromwell will star as Captain Stacy, father of Gwen Stacy.
Bryce Dallas Howard also signed recently to play Gwen, who, after an unfortunate accident turns against Spidey – which makes it kind of awkward considering she’s indulging in some heavy-petting with his alter-ego Peter Parker.
Howard and Cromwell are added to a swelling cast for Spidey 3 that also includes Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace and Theresa Russell.
