Cruise picks up Monster of Florence

To produce serial-killer thriller with United Artists

Tom Cruise and United Artists have acquired the rights to The Monster of Florence, a non-fiction book about a journalist attempting to identify the serial killer that plagued the city between 1974 and 1985.

Original author Mario Spezi told Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera that he recently signed a deal with UA for a cinema adaptation.

"It's the biggest movie deal in my life," Preston told the paper. "The film will have Florence and the Chianti as protagonists: two of the locations most beloved by Americans.”

According to Spezi, the script will be penned by Chris McQuarrie and Cruise will produce. Depending on the script, he may also star.
