Daniel Day-Lewis joins Scorsese’s Silence

Benicio Del Toro is also aboard…

BY Total Film Feb 2nd 2009 13:13PMFILED UNDER: Movie news

Martin Scorsese has finally locked down the details to make Silence his next film – and he’s rounded up Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio Del Toro to star.

Silence sees two Jesuit priests travelling to Japan in the 17th century who face persecution and violence when they try to spread the gospel.

It’s something of a labour of love for Marty, who has been trying to get the adaptation of Shusaku Endo’s novel onto the screen for more than 10 years.

Jay Cocks has penned the script, which might also nab Gael Garcia Bernal.

If Bernal signs, he and the others will be off to New Zealand later in the year to shoot.

I'm more excited by the prospect of Benicio Del Toro, Daniel Day Lewis and Gael Garcia Bernal all sharing screentime. I'm not a huge Scorcese fan.

Anything to do with Daniel Day-Lewis on the screen is exciting! This has instantly gone on my 'can't wait' list with Public Enemies.
