Darren Aronofsky directing Robocop

It’s been a near-official whisper for a while now, but MGM has just announced that Requiem For A Dream helmer Darren Aronofsky will take the helm of the company’s updated Robocop film.
David Self, the writer behind Road To Perdition, has been hired to write the script, which will apparently not attempt to remake the first film, but instead pick up the story a couple of decades later, and switch to a dangerous near-future LA.
The film is planned for a 2010 release. MGM's announcment can be found at their website.
