The dream is over, Darren Aronofsky will not be making some sort of weird fight movie trilogy - after The Wrestler and The Fighter, what would have been next, The Fencer?
That’s because he’s officially off The Fighter, a project which can now officially be placed in the ‘troubled’ folder.
Initially Matt Damon and Mark Walhberg were attached, then Damon walked, then the writer’s strike hit, then the project got picked up again, now Aronofsky’s gone. So bang goes our dream of seeing Mickey Rourke in a boxing movie.
Still, it’s not all bad news. David O Russell has signed on to take Aronofsky's place, and Christian Bale has agreed to take on lead part Dicky Eklund, an ex-crack addict turned boxing coach, who guides his little brother through 26 professional fights.
It's based on a true story, if you haven't already guessed.
No official reason’s been given for Darren’s departure, but we can only imagine that he got sweaty muscle men out off his system with The Wrestler and is now ready to move on to metallic cops who offer criminals limited time frames to comply in his RoboCop remake.
Are you sad Aronofsky's gone? Will a set containing David O Russell and Christian Bale be the shoutiest in history? Tell us below!
