He’s recently dabbled in action comedy with Pineapple Express and now David Gordon Green is having a crack at horror for Freaks Of The Heartland.

It’s based on 30 Days Of Night creator Steve Niles' comic series about a kid in a small US town who tries to protect his “monstrous” younger brother and other “freaks” from his parents and the rest of the town who would kill them, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Think The Midwich Cuckoos meets Deliverance, and you’re getting close.

Rights purchased

Overture Films – which is making a name for itself with remakes and genre projects such as a new version of The Crazies and Cloverfield’s Matt Reeves’ take on Let The Right One In – bought the rights before the book hit shelves.
