David Mamet tackling Anne Frank

World famous diary getting a new film version...

Disney has turned to an unexpected source for a new version of The Diary Of Anne Frank - David Mamet.

Mamet is fashioning a film that will combine the original source material with the play by Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich and the writer/director's own take on Frank's tale.

He's apparently re-imagining it as a young girl's right of passage.

Frank's legendary life story takes place against the fear and hatred shown to Jews by the Nazis during World War Two.

She and her family hid in a cramped attic apartment in Amsterdam for two years before they were discovered and she died aged 15 in a concentration camp - with her diary eventually published post-war.

We somehow doubt Mamet will bring his usual clipped, sweary dialogue to bear on the diary and we're not sure we see regular collaborator William H Macy playing Anne. He might show up though...
