The X-Men universe continues to expand apace, with director Tim Miller suggesting that all systems are go on a forthcoming Deadpool spin-off.
The last time we saw the time-travelling assassin was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, in which he was played with trademark wise-cracking bravado by Ryan Reynolds. Since then it has gone a little quiet, although Miller has now stated that the spin-off wheels are in motion.
“We’ve turned in an amazing script and done some early tests and visual development that I’m confident would get the fans stoked,” says Miller. “And Ryan [Reynolds] still loves the project. So it’s really up to Fox as to whether or not the film happens. All I can do is hope (and beg periodically) that it be allowed to move ahead.”
Not that conclusive you might think, but Deadpool creator Rob Liefield later took to his Twitter feed to reveal that Fox’s greenlight might be closer than Miller had originally anticipated.
I assure you, as Deadpool's daddy that me, Tim Miller and @mrmarkmillar have huddled on all things Deadpool. We will storm the castle!!

The single biggest blockade(blockhead?) is gone. Mr. Tom Rothman has been removed from Fox. Not a friend of Deadpool's.

I've said it again, if the Deadpool test footage was seen, leaked, the Internet would freak and riots would ensue. Bloody PERFECT.
— robertliefeld (@robertliefeld) October 19, 201As Tim Miller stated earlier this week, he is ferocious in his commitment to Deadpool. As are the screenwriters, Rheese & Wernick, Reynolds

And in response to a fellow tweeter's question, Liefield confirmed that Deadpool would be donning a traditional suit in the spin-off.
Sounds promising, doesn't it? We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for official confirmation, but it certainly seems as though things are moving in the right direction

Not sure about this. Outside the Marvel universe, the character doesn't have the same widespread recognition as Spider-Man, X-Men, etc. Would just rather he appeared in an X-Men film but done properly.

I have no doubt he'd be wearing the traditional suit in his own film. Can you imagine the backlash from fans if he didn't spend at least most of the film in the suit? I definitely wouldn't go see it if he wasn't wearing it.

I'd only watch this if they recast.

Judging from what I saw of Reynolds as Wilson, I'm actually happy with him playing/voicing Deadpool.

Aside from the awful final battle Deadpool pretty much stole that movie.
