Sucker Punch may have been the movie everybody was talking about this weekend, but Zack Snyder’s new action mash-up lost out on the US box office top spot.
That honour instead went to kiddie sequel Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, which nabbed the number one spot with an opening of $24.4m.
Sucker Punch fell just behind in second with $19m, which is a very disappointing opening for a film that tried so hard to push so many sexy marketing buttons.
Bradley Cooper’s Limitless showed enduring appeal in third with $15m, Matthew McConaughey’s lauded Lincoln Lawyer held out in fourth with $11m and CG Rango slipped from second to fifth with $9.8m.
The rest of the top ten consisted of box office hold-overs, with Battle: Los Angeles in sixth ($7.6m), Paul in seventh ($7.5m), Red Riding Hood in eighth ($4.3m) and The Adjustment Bureau in ninth with $4.2m.
Disney’s 2011 turkey Mars Needs Moms rounded it all out in 10th with just $2.1m, bringing its disappointing box office total to just $19m after three weeks. Ouch.
