20th Century Fox has attached Leonardo DiCaprio to star in The Deep Blue Goodbye.
The film is being adapted from John D McDonald's 1960s mystery novels that features Travis McGee, self-proclaimed beach bum who lives on a houseboat christened the Busted Flush.
He earns a living as a "salvage consultant" - basically seizing back disputed items for various clients, jobs which tend to get him into trouble with violent types, but also into bed with women in the sexy Florida locale.
Dana Stevens is busy cranking out the first script, which is taken from the first in the 21-volume series (so plenty of franchise potential if the first film makes it to the screen and works).
But there's no word on when that might happen as the movie doesn't yet have a director or a start date. DiCaprio is producing through his Appian Way company, but while he's affixed to the film., that doesn't necessarily mean he'll star, since he can say that about approximately 6,452 projects percolating in Hollywood…
