Dillon muted about Oscar nod

The Crash star salutes his un-nominated co-stars

One guaranteed conversation to have taken place at some point this week in every workplace up and down the country and all over the planet – Oscar nominations.

While the usual rounds of “how the hell did she get one?” and “I can’t believe that’s not up for best picture” rage on, everyone, it seems, is in agreement that Matt Dillon is thoroughly deserving of his Supporting Actor Academy nod… unless you’re Matt Dillon that is.

“I'm very excited about it,” the Crash star said, “but at the same time, part of me wishes that some more of my fellow cast members could have gotten nominated too, 'cos theirs certainly were worthy performances.”

Nominated in the Best Picture category, Crash also nabbed nods for Best Director, Editing, Screenplay and Song.

Written and directed by Million Dollar Baby scribbler Paul Haggis – Crash follows the lives of a group of LA residents from varied backgrounds and races, whose paths intertwine with dramatic effect.

“I wouldn't say ‘overlooked’ because it's not a competitive sport, but Terrence Howard was certainly worthy. Don Cheadle and Thandie Newton. Ryan Phillippe was terrific. Michael Pena, Sandra Bullock. I really feel that. So I'm proud to represent the cast. But we all did it together. It's the best ensemble I've worked with.”

Terrence Howard may not have been recognised for his powerful performance alongside Dillon but Oscar tipped him the wink for his part in Craig Brewer’s gripping crime drama Hustle & Flow.
