Alien immigration drama gets a teaser

The first teaser promo for Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 has now gone online and you can view it below.

Presented by Peter Jackson (who, you might recall, spearheaded Blomkamp as the director of his planned, and so far stalled, HALO pic), District 9 tells the tale of insectoid aliens arriving on Earth and getting treated like illegal immigrants.

Forced to live in slum shanty towns, they’re exploited by a corporation, distrusted by their human neighbours and generally given a rough go of it, despite a massive great spaceship hovering overhead and clearly advanced weapons.

Yeah, this is going to go well for humanity…

Expanded from a short created by Blomkamp and nodding towards a docu-drama feel (at least in the this teaser) that feels like Alien Nation meets Cloverfield, it’s certainly an intriguing concept.

We’ll find out if it works as a film this September, but for now watch the trailer below and give us your thoughts…

  What a brilliant concept! I love the way it satirizes the sort of anti-immigration things people do say. I wonder if they'll give it a moral ending. A be-nice-to-'aliens'-or-they-might-blow-you-sky-high sort of moral.
