Tarantino's Django Unchained set for Christmas 2012

Westsploitation hitting cinemas on 25 December

Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained will be released on 25 December 2012.

The release date is probably only for the US, but the UK release date is likely to be close to that.

Django Unchained follows the story of a freed American slave who teams up with a German bounty hunter to save his wife from Calvin Candie, an evil plantation owner.

The filmhas so far almost recruited Christoph Waltz, Samuel L Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Jamie Foxx is now rumoured to be the frontrunner for the role of Django, with Idris Elba and Chris Tucker also circling the role.

Tarantino released Jackie Brown around Christmas in 1997, but in 2012 he has The Hobbit, Man of Steel (Superman), Star Trek 2 and Life of Pi (Ang Lee's latest) to contend with.

What a very merry Christmas that will be.

Will this be a cold turkey? Or will it be a hearty feast with all the trimmings? Give us your thoughts...

Good move, not only will it do well financially but the chances of getting some Oscar nom's have significantly increased. P.S. Jamie Foxx should play Django. We've seen him in Ray & Collateral so we know he can act.

Although I do think that Jamie Foxx is a good actor and I'm sure he would do a great job if awarded the title role, my personal preference would be for the role to go to Idris Alba. He was phenominal as Stringer Bell in The Wire and has been pretty solid in every other film he's been in, even if the films themselves haven't been. This role would give him the push into the A-list that I think he deserves. I still can't believe that we're getting another QT film so close to his last one!

Please not Jamie Fox, I probably wouldn't watch if he was in it. Yes he is a good actor but he's also a class A d-bag. Idris Elba would be a really good choice but what about Cuba Gooding Jnr?
