Don Cheadle hints at Avengers 2 appearance

Plus, a video interview with the man behind Iron Patriot

Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes is set to play a chunkier role than ever in the forthcoming Iron Man 3, so much so that it’s set tongues wagging as to whether the character might pop up in The Avengers 2.

Joss Whedon is currently in the middle of writing that film’s script, and while Cheadle doesn’t confirm his appearance outright, he does suggest that the possibility is being discussed.

“I know that [there are] conversations that have been happening, so we’ll see what happens,” says Cheadle. “If that’s able to happen and it makes sense for the story, I’m sure it’ll happen, and if not it’s fine. It has to work within the world and sort of the mythology of the whole Marvel universe.”

And if he doesn’t swing a part in that one, there’s always Captain America: The Winter Soldier to fall back on. “I think I’m gonna go to the set,” says Cheadle of Cap’s return, “so maybe if I bring the suit in my trunk I’ll just walk on.”

What we do know for sure is that he’s starring in Iron Man 3, which opens in the UK 25 April 2013. Although don’t be surprised if that’s not the last time he crops up in Phase 2 of the Marvel universe…

I understand why they didn't do it for Avengers last year, but I would love to see Iron Man and War Machine side-by-side in a future Avengers film

While in the comics, War Machine is not an official Avenger member he does have ties to the spin-off team "secret Avengers" a more government run operation so it could indeed work for a small cameo where their paths cross, especial since they are spinning the Iron patriot story

Oh c'mon @marvelboy, know your comics history :) Rhodey was a founding member of the West Coast Avengers (as Iron Man circa 1985) and then re-joined the team as War Machine later on in the comics run (just before the series was cancelled) so he is a bodafide Avenger. And yes, in more recent comics, he was part of Steve Rogers Secret Avengers team and in the latest Marvel Now series seems to be gracing #3's cover in the Iron Patriot armour (nice movie tie-in Marvel - lol) :)

As long as it's similar to Pepper Pot's brief appearences in The Avangers that's cool but anything larger is just too much IMO.

OMG can't believe I forgot West Coast Avengers my bad... But yeah I'm liking how the comics are linking to the movies i mean Hawkeye's new suit and Nick Fury Jr (who looks a lot like S.L.Jackson)
