Don LaFontaine has passed

Trailer-voice maestro has died

You might not know the name, but you will know the voice - Don LaFontaine was the throat behind five thousand trailer voiceovers, including The Godfather, Terminator 2: Judgement Day and his own personal favourite vocal performance, The Elephant Man.

Known as the King of Voiceovers, Don built his reputation over the course of a career lasting 25 years - which included appearances as the in-show announcer for the Oscars and several brilliant bits of self parody.

La Fontaine died at his home on Monday afternoon from a collapsed lung.

Don felt like an old friend to film fans - he will be missed.
