Edgar Wright confirms Ultron won't appear in Ant-Man

"It was never in my script"

Edgar Wright has confirmed that robot Ultron won't be making an appearance in his Ant-Man movie.

Despite the fact that the robotic villain - who will play a pivotal part in Avengers: Age Of Ultron (well, duh) - was created by Harry Pym (aka Ant-Man), he won't be appearing in the diminutive hero's movie.

Which is fine by Wright, who says that Ultron "was never in my script". In conversation with the Huffington Post, he added: "Even just to sort of set up what Ant-Man does is enough for one movie."

The director went on to explain that comic-book movies have no choice but to streamline the comics.

"Comics have years to explain this stuff and in a movie you have to focus on one thing," he argued.

"It's about kind of streamlining, I think. Some of the most successful origin films actually have a narrower focus. You cannot put 50 years of the Marvel universe into a movie. It's impossible."

Ant-Man
opens in the UK in 2015.

Glad that Ultron won't be in the Ant-Man movie? Tell us below...

that's the magic of scriptwriting/screenplays, trying to develop a deep character in the shortest time possible without relying too heavily on cliches and archetypes. its nice when they don't slavishly follow the source material, film is able to tell different stories to books (comics). i look forward to this film despite have no idea who ant man is

It's fine with me. Too often they try to cram too much in to a film and it ends up bloated with fanboy head-nods. And since Ultron has been pretty much 'confirmed' to be the creation of Stark in this version of Marvel Universe, it wouldn't make any sense for it to appear in Ant-Man after Avengers 2.

Surely the villain will be Nippon *sn****rs* (that joke may be wasted on people under 30)

Given that this man has directed probably the only romantic comedy to ever make it into my blu-ray collection – which is no easy feat, I might add – I look forward to seeing what he can do with this.

I have no issues with Edgar Wright's plans for Ant-Man, it's Marvel and Whedon's whole idea for Ultron that bothers me.
