Edgar Wright reveals new World's End quad poster

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost prepare to get annihilated

Edgar Wright tweeted evidence that his 'Three Flavours Cornetto' trilogy is nearly complete, by unveiling a new quad poster for The World's End.

The poster does a pretty fine job of summing up the key selling points of the summer 2013 release, by putting the faces of Simon Pegg (who co-writes with Wright) and Nick Frost front and centre to remind us that this is the third movie team-up from the Spaced cohorts (after Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz).

There's also a pub sign (complete with meteor hole burned right through the middle), and a surprisingly beautiful apocalyptic sunset-of-sorts exploding on the horizon.

And what's going on with those blue-eyed folk loitering in the background? Are we to presume that there's some sort of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers-type takeover happening? The official synopsis offers little in the way of confirmation:

"In The World's End, 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub - The World's End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realise the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind's. Reaching The World's End is the least of their worries."

Co-starring an enviable roster of British acting talent - including Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan - The World's End opens in the UK on 19 July 2013, with a US release following on 23 August.

Hmm even though it's part of the three flavors cornetto trilogy I still think it's silly not to use Freeman in the poster, especially since only like a billion people saw the Hobbit.

More like the 'we couldn't think up a less sh/tter name for a trilogy' trilogy.

The glowy blue eyes indicate a widespread outbreak of the same contagion previously observed at the boy's school in the music video for Bonnie Ty;er's "Total Eclipse of the Heart".
