Edward Norton no longer The Hulk

Joaquin Phoenix in talks for The Avengers role

Edward Norton has officially been dropped by Marvel from The Avengers.

According to Norton’s agent, Brian Swardstrom, Norton was enthusiastic to return as Bruce Banner.

Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige at Marvel had this to say in response to the decision to replace Norton;

“Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members.”

Considering the wider picture there may be other prominent reasons for Marvels choice and Feige's declaration.

Norton was well known for his difficulty to work with on The Incredible Hulk, where a series of reports stated that he demanded script input and “complete control” over the final cut.

Rumors are circulating that Joaquin Pheonix is in talks to take on the role, a bold choice considering the Oscar-winner's bizarre retirement for a rap career failed to generate hits, laughs, or much positive publcity for the actor.

We'd like to see Sharlto Copley tackle the role, his dishevelled appearance a ringer for Bruce Banner in the Marvel 'Ultimates' comic on which The Avengers film will be based. He's also used to working in ensembles and is an easy going, universally-liked guy with incredible talent.

Adrien Brody is also a good fit - another Oscar-winning actor with team-playing credentials after Predators.

This is the second time Marvel Studios have recast a major character in one of their franchises, after replacing Terrance Howard with Don Cheadle on Iron Man 2.

Who do you want to Hulk out? Or is this a massive mistake?

      Copley has given us transformation craziness in D-9...Brody has given monster chops in Kong...Norton has bowed out gracefully...it's a shame but MARVEL will eventually fall...I mean they have made a few good movies...but at the end of the day....Ghost Rider?

      Joaquin could be a good choice especially if The Hulk is to be the bad guy in the up and coming Avengers movie. The Avengers by the way have a great collection of characters not yet seen on the big screen,like Black Panter/The Vision/The Scarlet Witch/Hawkeye.I would love to see some of the above characters included at some stage.

      I guess that rules out the rest of the supporting cast in Hulk....Abomination, Ross, Betty and Leader? If in doubt....cast Chris Evans...the most uninspired cast choice for Cap ever! Paul Walker for Banner I guess, put wooden seats in the cinema!

      I really didn't mind Ed Norton as Bruce Banner/Hulk. I think he fit the role quite well. Joaquin Phoenix is a great choice also that is if the rumours are true. MARVEL ought to be careful about which A list actors they burn. It will hurt their integrity and reputation.

      Its ridiculous, if Norton is getting replaced then cool, phoenix or brody are unexpectidely excellent choices, however, we're not just replacing war machine here, its HULK!!!! FOR LIKE A THIRD TIME.......Norton was perfect banner, n although he is a tosser, maybe we can get over CREATIVE CONTROL!!!! n have another chat with him and put him in his place and let the director call the shots, which im sure he'd do if he was that ENTHUSIASTIC about a return to Hulk, not sure about Marvel lately, nor Chris Evans as Cap? oh n Ghost rider wasn't terrible, it was Average, in fact almost as average as Human torch sorry i mean Cap America!!! They have made worse...i trust you all saw daredevil? If no Norton as Hulk, then f**k Marvel im with DC and Batman 3..................
