Eli Roth’s The Green Inferno postponed

Cannibal horror hits the rocks

Eli Roth’s forthcoming cannibal drama The Green Inferno looks to have hit a fairly major snag, with distributor Open Road Films having postponed the film’s release.

Deadline reports that the delay is a result of financier Worldview Entertainment getting cold feet over the publicity commitment struck by its former CEO, with Open Road refusing to release the film without receiving the agreed cash.

What happens next is unclear, although the report claims that behind the scenes talks are well underway in order to find a solution, with a VOD release one of the suggestions mooted.

Roth’s first directorial project in six years, The Green Inferno tells the story of a group of activists who fly to a remote area of the rainforest, only to find the locals have some rather peculiar customs…

We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that this one still receives a cinematic release, although the proposed date of 5 September 2014 is looking increasingly unlikely…
