Elijah wood stars in new Maniac images

We're a long way from the Shire now…

Maniac, Franck Khalfoun's remake of the 1980 slasher movie, has released a new set of official images featuring a blood-spattered Elijah Wood as the film's titular nutjob.

Wood plays Frank, the reclusive owner of a local mannequin store, whose quiet life is turned upside down by the arrival of a young artist named Anna (Nora Arnezeder), who asks him for help with an exhibition she's planning.

Sadly for everyone concerned, Anna inadvertently awakens a host of murderous impulses in Frank, rousing memories of childhood abuse and tipping him out of the realm of the eccentric into full-blown lunatic territory.

The new images feature Wood looked crazed, Arnezeder looking cute and a mannaquin looking downright terrifying. Frank's got a thing for scalps you see, and if you look closer at that dummy, you'll see that some of the parts aren't originals…

Penned by Piranha 3D's Alexandre Aja, Maniac has yet to receive an official release date, but is expected to arrive at some point next year. Hold onto your hairpieces... there's a killer on the loose!

Who asked for this remake? Not that the original was a bad movie, but was there really a lucrative market for a remake of an old 1980s slasher movie; though I guess the same people probably asked for the My Bloody Valentine and Black Christmas remakes, both abysmally awful. Elijah Wood actually seems like a perfect choice, a meek unassuming person who has a far darker side within him. He proved he could be intimidating in Sin City as Kevin, so he could fit the role just fine. Hopefully it will not just be a lazy mess made for 3D. http://www.videodetective.com/movies/my-bloody-valentine-3-d/937469
