Elijah Wood to make a cameo in The Hobbit?

Rumours say yes

The Hobbit

Elijah Wood could be joining the confirmed likes of Cate Blanchett in making a cameo in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit two-parter.

Though his character doesn’t appear in J.R.R. Tolkien’s original tome (just like Blanchett’s Galadriel), it appears that Jackson is keen for the actor to make a continuity-aiding cameo in the new films.

With other casting talk linking Orlando Bloom to the film (another stray from the literary original), as well as the necessary but as yet unconfirmed additions of Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis, the Hobbit casting people are really working overtime as they prepare for the films.

Other happenings behind the scenes include the announcement that Warner Bros. will be handling the worldwide distribution of the films, and will cover their budget – reportedly a whopping $500m.

The Hobbit: Part One should open in December 2012.

The piece about Orlando Bloom joining the cast dosen't mean thats it's a stray from the original context. Legolas could well have been there, but Bilbo would not have know who he was.

God not Orlanda Bland, no other actor could out-wood the furniture.

Legolas is perfectly legitimate as the Company ended up in Thranduil's Hall where Legolas is Prince, but Frodo? Time-wise he won't be born for another 30 years! Galadriel is certainly fine, especially if they're including a sequence where the White Council casts the Necromancer out of Dol Guldur; for that you'd even need Saruman back. As to rumours I've heard of a Gimli cameo I can only say WTF? The character was only about 13 at the time, still a toddler by dwarvish standards.

Get Gimli back, Frodo and even c**p Scottish hobbit. What the hell, I think they could fit Jabba the Hutt and Pac Man in there too. I definetely believe this film needs more ewoks. Stop chronologising about nothing, everyone (I'm pretty sure I invented a word there). The Hobbit has been my favourite book my whole life and I'm thankful that Peter Jackson is going to make it accessible to more people and I'm more excited about this than I ever was about LotR.
