Emma Stone could be new Mary Jane

Spider-Man reboot swings in her direction

Andrew Garfield

Superbad and Zombieland ass-kicker Emma Stone has been offered the role of Mary Jane in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.

Though previous reports had it that Mary Jane wouldn’t be Peter Parker’s girlfriend in the web-spinner’s next outing, that honour presumably going to Gwen Stacy, clearly MJ will have some part to play in the movie.

Deadline report that Sony have offered the role to Emma Stone, whose new movie Easy A tipped her into lead territory after a series of supporting turns in the aforementioned Superbad, Zombieland and uh, The House Bunny.

Furthermore, the site reports that while Gwen Stacy will indeed be the more prominent laydee in Mark Webb’s first Spidey re-do (casting is still underway), Mary Jane could play a bigger role in the proposed sequels.

Stone has also recently been offered the lead in the remake of 21 Jump Street by Sony, which comes as no surprise considering her Superbad co-star Jonah Hill is producing/starring. Nope, Stone’s not going anywhere soon.

Meanwhile, the search for Gwen continues…

Spider-Man opens in cinemas on 12 July, 2012.

Could be good, I was not a big fan of hers until recently. I would like to see her in more dramatic rolls. I think her best work so far would probably be in Paper Man which unfortunately not many people have seen.

Sam Raimis' Spiderman was an overblown cartoon, with Tobey Maguire as a too short, too goofy looking, whining and non wise cracking Spiderman. He acted nothing like the character from the books. He even admitted on national television that he had never even read a Spiderman comic book, nor was he interested in them growing up and it shows in his deadpan acting. He was merely going through the motions of acting to a script knowing nothing about the character at all. In fact the only Spiderman thing was the costume itself and a great supporting cast. This reboot by phony Sony is targeting the teen crowd by keeping Peter Parker in high school and following the over rated "Ultimate" fad. Hopefully one day we will see MARVEL studios present a Spiderman film based on the ORIGINAL Marvel Comics and still best selling flagship title "Amazing Spiderman" which since 1966 has been depicting the adventures of a mature adult Peter Parker the MAN and his alter ego Spider-MAN. Phony Sony can keep its' teeny bopper Spider-TEEN franchise.
