Escape From New York remake back on

Plissken will 'always remain a bad-ass'

The Escape From New York remake will go ahead thanks to Allen Loeb.

The screenwriter, who essentially saved Wall Street 2 from development hell, has worked his magic again to take the cult John Carpenter sci-fi actioner one step closer to the big screen.

The problem with many of the previous scripts, it seems, had been down to two key factors; no-one could write Snake without making him a camp G.I Joe, and the prospect of turning Manhattan into a giant prison was proving too costly.

However Vulture are reporting that New Line is now "quickly moving forward" with their plans to remake the film.

"Loeb nailed the humor in Plissken without slipping into camp, and he changed Snake’s rescue-mission target from a president to a female senator, thereby upping the banter quotient."

"But just as big a factor was economic: They found a much cheaper way to turn Manhattan into a giant prison."

Until more details are released, we'll remain slightly sceptical of this reboot, but there is one positive to take from it: New Line's contract with John Carpenter stipulates that any new version of Plissken must:

  1. Be called Snake.
  2. Wear an eye-patch.
  3. Always remain a bad-ass

That is pretty much the most awesome contract we've ever seen, and we'll be adding it to any future contract negotiations, pre-nups, and CVs we write from now on...

"he changed Snake’s rescue-mission target from a president to a female senator, thereby upping the banter quotient." So they have downed the anti from president to a bog standard senetor and pretty much said it's gonna be a bloke and a women bickering for 2hrs! Hmm way to go hollywood, but Carpenters contract is the bollocks though!
