Evan Peters cast as Quicksilver in X-Men: Days Of Future Past

Potentially complicates plans for Avengers 2

Bryan Singer has confirmed that a new character has been cast in X-Men: Days Of Future Past, an announcement that could be set to throw a spanner in the works for Joss Whedon's The Avengers 2.

Singer took to Twitter to announce that Evan Peters has signed on to play Quicksilver in the new movie, a mutant with the ability to run at super-speed.

Here's how Singer unveiled the news…

Interestingly enough, that tweet replaced an earlier message that began: "Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid." Perhaps Singer became aware of the potential flames he was fanning...

The problem is that Whedon recently confirmed that Quicksilver and his sister Scarlet Witch would be new additions to the team for The Avengers 2, posing a headache in terms of continuity.

Disney and Fox don't share their Marvel properties, so it seems extremely unlikely that Peters will crop up in Whedon's film. However, re-casting the character for a film released just one year later is also not ideal…

One thing's for sure, though: Bryan Singer certainly isn't worried about overpopulating his cast! X-Men: Days Of Future Past opens in the UK on 18 July 2014.

Is Singer over-filling his movie? Tell us your thoughts, below!

This is just a theory but I think this was Fox's idea. They probably pressured Singer into writing him into the film when they realized Whedon was going to use Quicksilver and if Whedon used him then that would mean it would be redundant to them put him in any future X-Men movie and so they decided to just used him now since Whedon has confirmed casting for him yet. As for Even if he beefed up for the role then he could be decent. I'm wondering if Fox are going to include Scarlet Witch or just take Quicksilver from Whedon.

If I had to choose between Avengers and X-Men, I'd choose Avengers! It should be interesting to see how this plays out.

I didn't really understand when Whedon said about Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch - aren't they predominantly X-Men characters? And therefore, wouldn't Fox have the rights to them? Seemed weird to try to fit them into the Avengers world...

@mattburgess. I know what you are saying, but alot of the Marvel movies seem to have used the Mark Millar Ultimates as their reference point (if not for plot as a whole, at least for the look and alot of the charateristics of the main players). Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were a massive part of the Ultimates and were handled exceptionally well. If Whedon uses them to the same affect in Avengers 2 I'd be well happy.

The way i understand it is supposedly right to QS and SW are held jointly by Fox/Disney, meaning they can both use them as two separate beings and two different actors with two different stories/origins - I don't like the sound of that ... However for Whedon he could return to his 1st draft from Avenger Assemble and cast Wasp and introduce Ant-man for his November 2015 Film

@Mattburgess Scarlet Witch was a memeber of the Avengers for a long time, also. She was even married to The Vision... who is an emotionless android... no, I don't know why either...

I agree this is studio pressure. This X- Men is going to be a mess.

Isn't there are chance this actor could appear in both versions and this is the first step that all us geeks have been pining for and the studios are going to start allowing cross-referencing and cross...er.....acting across the franchises. I personally hope it is. Although, when is X-Men supposed to be set? The first film (i think it was out in 2000?) did say 'In the not too distant future' at the start, so X-Men could actually be set around the same time as Iron Man 1, making them all set at the same time together.

@SiMan: My vote is for keeping them separate, though.

another thought ... X:DOFP is alternate realities an futures, so potential something could happen which means a new different QS in The Avengers sequel... But I agree Singer has been forced to add this by Fox after the hyper behind his upcoming appearance in the avengers, but sorry Fox everyone is hyped for SW not QS

I highly doubt this is the start of a grand partnership by Marvel Sutdios and Fox, the finanical negotiations for a deal like that would take months to arrange between various lawyers, we would have heard something about that leaking by now. Sony are the only ones who've approached Marvel about at least making the Spider-Man universe exist within The Avengers one.

I'm hoping Days of Future Past is at least a 3 hour movie, to accommodate all of these characters. I'd prefer to see Quicksilver in X-Men rather than The Avengers. It just feels right. Plus, I want Whedon to bring Wasp into Avengers 2 and hopefully now he will drop his Quicksilver/Scarlet Witch idea and go with her instead. Bring on the Ant!
