Evangeline Lilly wields a bow in a new image from The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug

Tauriel takes aim

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug has revealed new look at Evangeline Lilly’s woodland Elf Tauriel, via EW.com.

The new still shows her poised and ready for action, taking aim with a bow and arrow, a weapon that’s re-emerged as something of a cinematic staple of late.

Of her character, Lilly tells EW that, “She’s slightly reckless and totally ruthless and doesn’t hesitate to kill.” We caught up with Lilly a while back, and she told us about playing a grittier type of Elf.

The character is 600 years old (pretty young in Elf years), and is an entirely new creation, looking to add some gender balance to Tolkien’s male-centric Middle-earth adventure.

Directed by Peter Jackson, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug opens in the UK on 13 December 2013.

Why change her hair ? Lilly's brunette curls are one of her best features.

I think it will ruin it, why fix something that's not broken.

Why? Because a three film series with absolutely no female characters would be insane, that's why.

Yeah I have no problem with creating a new female character cause The Hobbit was one helluva sausage fest.

I've read a lil bit more about the subject, and seemingly they are introducing parts from tolkiens short story's from that area. Mind you not not sure if she's a charter from that lol. The reason why RAClements is because if her charters not part of the story or even part of the other part stories then whats the point in him rewriting a classic story when he said he wants to keep it as true as possible.
