Executive producer talks Guardians Of The Galaxy

Discusses plans for Groot and Rocket Raccoon

With Chris Pratt in line for the leading role of Star-Lord, James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy seems to be beginning to make tangible progress. However, question marks still remain over how the comic’s more “colourful” characters will be presented.
We’re talking of course about Rocket Raccoon and Groot, the humanoid tree. All we’ve heard so far is that Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey have been linked to the roles, but now executive producer Victoria Alonso has shed some more light on what we can expect from the fan favourites.
“You can’t do any motion capture with a raccoon,” jokes Alonso. “They won’t let you put the suit on! But we will do rotomation, probably, for some of the behaviour. Rocket will have his own personality, of course.”
“Clearly we can’t do mo-cap on a tree,” she continues, “but we definitely will have performers to emulate what James Gunn will lead to be the behaviour and the performance. He’s very clear on where he wants to take the characters.”
Expect more info and some further casting announcements in due course. Guardians Of The Galaxy will open in the UK on 1 August 2014.

I don't think this woman gets what motion-capture is. Maybe someone should show her how they made King Kong - does she think they actually caught a giant ape and put it in a motion capture suit? =S

Anyone else think this is a big risk for Marvel if they are going to be linking Avengers 2 into it. Personally, this is the type of film i'd watch, but if the general public don't embrace it, it could have a huge impact on Marvel's Phase 2 and 3 plans.

@SiMan this will be a film for the Fans (I hope) - I can see kids getting into it too, but personally I agree the general public will be like WTF is this - I expect a lot of marketing behind this one so people know it's Marvel and that its Avengers. Either way 2014 will be a good year for Marvel (GotG, ASM2, DoFP and Cap.America) the first time there as ever been four marvel films in one year
