Falling to Earth... again

The Man Who Fell To Earth gets remake treatment

Nothing is safe from the grasp of the remake machine. Not even weird David Bowie performances in classic Nicolas Roeg films. The Man Who Fell To Earth, which had Bowie’s alien-in-human-disguise coming to Earth in search of water, has now been optioned for the redo shuffle.

Warner Independent Pictures have grabbed the rights to both Roeg’s 1977 film and the 1963 Walter Trevis novel it was based on. It’s not yet known whether the intention is to change the plot or update the setting. Oren Moverman, who co-wrote Jesus’ Son, is penning the script. And that gave us a little inspiration: surely Jesus’s Son star Billy Crudup has the kooky character chops to play the Bowie role….

Hint: The film starred Michael J Fox as accidental time traveller Marty McFly.
