The first clip has arrived online for magician comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, and it features a tense showdown between rival illusionists Jim Carrey and Steve Carell.
Carrey plays a new-wave street magician in the style of David Blaine, whose all-conquering popularity is fast putting Carell’s old-school showmanship at risk of extinction.
“It’s not about pulling a rabbit out of a hat any more,” he smiles patronisingly. “It’s about pulling your heart out of your chest.”

It’s great to see Carrey using his comic timing for something other than rubber-faced buffoonery, and some of the lines he gets to drop here are genuine zingers. “Your skin makes me cry,” is a personal favourite.
Directed by Don Scardino and co-starring Alan Arkin, Steve Buscemi, Olivia Wilde and James Gandolfini, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone opens in the UK on 15 March 2013.
