First full trailer for Iron Man 3: watch now

Robert Downey Jr. is back

Iron Man 3 has finally released a full trailer - after a lot of teasing - and you can watch it here.

The Marvel threequel carries more weight than your average superhero installment, as it’s the first piece in Marvel’s Phase Two puzzle, following the stonking success of The Avengers.

This time around, Tony Stark is back at his lowest ebb, after riding high with the superteam. The official synopsis states that the genius billionaire playboy philanthropist “finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands” and has to rely on his ingenuity and instincts to fight back.

It’s fairly safe to say that it’s Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin who’s causing Stark all that grief.

Watch the Iron Man 3 trailer online now:

Needless to say, it looks like the destruction of the Malibu beach house will be one of 2013's most spectacular set pieces.

For the eagle-eyed, there are a couple of glimpses at Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian (one of 100 people who want to kill Stark) and Rebecca Hall's Maya Hansen. And it looks like Iron Patriot will be wreaking a fair amount of destruction.

Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) takes over directorial duties for Part 3, though Jon Favreau’s staying on as Happy Hogan.

Also starring Gwyneth Paltrow, James Badge Dale and Don Cheadle, Iron Man 3 opens in the UK on 26 April 2013 (before opening in the US on 3 May 2013).

Is Iron Man 3 your most anticipated film of 2013? Does Man Of Steel stand a chance against Tony Stark? Tell us below!

Looks great! Just one question, if the Mandarin is all powerful with magic and stuff...why does he need a gun?

Oooh, looks a bit more 'dark' (it's become a cliche to say that but still). Shane Black should be able to do a spectacular job too, and though there seems to be no comedy in the trailer, he should be able to really perform on bringing out the funnys if Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was anything to go by. Excited!

Looks cool. interesting to see that the mandarin looks a lot more osama bin laden in the beard department than the mandarins usual fu manchu. his accent seems to be unplaceable too, which is a bit of a relief considering the characters origins. i just hope that they don't waste gwyneth paltrows character in a 'they killed his wife, now he wants revenge' cliche, ala lethal weapon and about a million others.

The indestructible Iron Man suits just explode into pieces? Trailer looks nice though, although i hope they don't go too dark. And have a good explanation ready why all his Avenger buddies are too busy elsewhere to help him.

I don't understand why everyone is jumping on this "where are the Avengers - why can't they help him?" band-wagon. In the comics, many individual members of the team also had solo comic book series and would have adventures, trials and troubles outside of the team. They still faced stuff on their own, the team isn't always around and as you saw at the end of Avengers, Thor is off-planet, Hawkeye and Black Widow are probably re-assigned to S.H.I.E.L.D. duty somewhere else in the world, Captain America is most likely off dealing with this new world he's found himself in ... who knows where Hulk is? ... so Tony has to face new enemies on his own. Besides, he wouldn't be much of a hero if he had to ask his buddies to come and bail him out all the time ... otherwise, well this wouldn't be Iron Man 3 - it would be Avengers 2

@Chufferstud - maybe it was a magic gun? HIs accent was a little weird, but i don't think it will be anything that distracts from the film. I do hope they stick with giving him a magic based backstory - they've established with Thor (and the cosmic cube in Cap) that this type of thing fits into this universe and i think it would be more interesting to see how Stark, a man of science, copes with that. Has there been any indication on how the Mandarain will be portrayed in this aspect?

I don't mind who plays the Mandarin , maybe the purists would have prefered Chow Yun Fat or Jet Li. Looks a belter, hope it doesnt suffer from too-many-cooks syndrome like Spidey 3.

Watched this like a dozen times now. Regarding the magic powers of the Mandarin... The Iron Man film series so far has been devoid of anything supernatural. Am I the only one who feels as if a character having magic powers would just seem a little off? I'm aware that in The Avengers you obviously has gods and the like, but even Loki's possessing staff felt as if it had more of a technological/sci-fi element to it, rather than a fantasy one. I'm not a reader of the Iron Man comics, so I may be annoying all kindsa people with what 'mI saying but I'm just curious...

@thedanieljson - completely agree that you need to keep within the confines of the world that has already been established (i think the Mandarin's rings may even be alien tech, which maybe would fit in with the Marvel universe), but after two films of Stark facing off against tech-based foes, i think it's time for something different. Again, i'll also re-iterate my point i think it would be a more interesting struggle for a technological based protagonist in Stark having to face off against something he has no understanding of in a magical based antagonist. This would have worked with Fantastic Four and a better Doctor Doom too.
