The first still has appeared online from The Imitation Game, giving us a first glimpse of Benedict Cumberbatch as mathematician Alan Turing.
The image was released on the same day as Queen Elizabeth II issued Turing with a Royal Pardon, having been convicted of homosexuality back in 1952.
Credited with cracking the German Enigma Code during the Second World War, Turing’s life took a tragic turn with his conviction, the penalty for which was chemical castration. He took his own life two years later, aged just 41.
The new image is likely taken from the portion of Turing’s life spent at Bletchley Park, where Allied codebreakers worked night and day on Enigma.
Directed by Morten Tyldum and co-starring Keira Knightley, Mark Strong and Matthew Goode, The Imitation Game will open in 2014, with a specific release date to be confirmed.
