First look at Hugh Jackman in Les Misérables

Valjean is looking rough

The first on-set images have leaked from the set of Hugh Jackman’s new one, an adaptation of the phenomenally popular stage musical, Les Misérables.

The pics show Jackman in costume as Valjean, sporting a straggly beard and a fairly slapdash buzz-cut. This will presumably be the stage at which Valjean is newly released from prison, before his journey of redemption begins in earnest.

Directed by The King’s Speechhelmer Tom Hooper, Les Misérables is set in Paris during the early 19th Century and tells the story of a number of interconnected characters in the build-up to the June Rebellion of 1832.

Jackman will be joined on-screen by Russell Crowe as the villainous Javert, with support provided by the likes of Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter.

Les Misérables will open in the UK on 13 January 2013. You can check out the first images in full, below…

I wasn't really sure what to expect from these images, but as an avid Les Mis fan I'm satisfied. All the key features that make the character are there and the costume is perfect! Excitement is most definitely building. As Russel Crowe tweeted me about this film, 'Calmly prepare to have your mind blown'.

Why do I get the feeling that Dalidab now wants to wash and shave Hugh Jackman.

Sigh... I'm about to get nitpicky on your a*s and take objection with your use of the word "villainous." Javert is NOT the villain, just the antagonist. At worst, he's an anti-hero. Helena Bonham Carter is one of the villains, but not Russel Crowe.
