Paramount Pictures have treated the world to the first official image of Chris Pine as Jack Ryan.
In the first shot revealed from the as-yet untitled prequel, Pine tears through Manhattan on a motorcycle (perhaps using the biking skills honed as Star Trek’s wild one, Captain Kirk).
The as-yet untitled prequel co-stars Keira Knightley and Kevin Costner, as well as Kenneth Branagh (who’s also directing).
A possible franchise kick-starter, the thriller will see Ryan working as a financial consultant for a Russian billionaire, before being framed for a terrorist plot. At least this image suggest Ryan won't just be an office-bound pen-pusher...

One thing I liked about the Sum of all Fears (and arguably all the Ryan movies) is that he isn't an action guy. When he does have to get involved it's a lot more realistic than most action scenes (played brilliantly by Ford, Baldwin and Affleck). This looks like it's going for Bourne/Bond/Reacher etc. Shame, hope it's not going to be another generic franchise kickstarter complete with motorcycle chase.

I still think The Hunt for Red October is the best Ryan movie. Baldwin pretty much tapped into Ryan as someone who is smart enough to put the pieces together but is still pretty much of his depth ('scuse the pun). With Pine, they are obviously trying to turn Ryan into the next Bourne.

Am i right in thinking Ford was offered the Hunt for Red October part, but turned it down because he thought (probably rightly) that the Connery part was the more interesting character to play in that film. If he had have done it, and still done patriot Games and Clear & Present danger, that'd be 3 big trilogies under his belt. Has any other actor even come close to doing similar?
