First trailer and poster for Rock Of Ages

Tom Cruise reaches for the hairspray

The first trailer for Rock Of Ages has arrived online, and chances are if you’ve ever owned an album from the likes of Journey, Foreigner or Whitesnake, you’re going to love it.

Adapted from the stage musical and set amid the crotch-thrusting excesses of the ’80s, the film sees “smalltown girl” (see what we did there?) Julianne Hough fall head over heels with Diego Boneta's city boy (sorry), while Tom Cruise’s hair-metal rocker rips it up on-stage.

Meanwhile, Catherine Zeta Jones plays a religious wing-nut who doesn’t like rock and roll, and won’t be putting a dime anywhere near that jukebox.

Take a look at the trailer below…

As a celebration of a musical era that is basically one long guilty pleasure, enjoyment of this one will likely rest on your tolerance for middle-aged men in spandex and interminable, finger-shredding guitar solos. Fortunately, we’re quite fond of all that, and so will probably be giving it a look!

Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Malin Akerman and Paul Giamatti are all among the supporting cast, with Hairspray’s Adam Shankman filling the director’s chair. Time to dust off that old Poison album ahead of the film’s release on 8 June 2012.

Will you be seeing this at the cinema, or taking a midnight train going anywhere else? Tell us, below.

Well this looks like an insult to rock and roll. I may not have been around during the time period, however I am willing to be those that were and were into all these bands wouldn't like a 'Glee' version of their favourite songs, and a poor p**stake of what rock and roll meant back them.

Jeez, its not meant to be taken seriously! Its a f*****g Broadway musical not a Def Leppard documentary... besides the music used is mostly the glam metal bands of the decade... its light-hearted and funny.

It's difficult to tell tone of voice over the internet. I just can't help feeling this looks like a grown up High School Musical or something. Back then it was all about sex, drugs and rock and roll. The first two I can bet are not in this movie at all. The rock and roll doesn't seem to pack much of a punch to it, sounds far too pop-styled instead. Plus back then rock and roll meant something, a lot of it was about standing up to conformity (and a lot of it was about sex.) so to hear the religious group singing "We're not Gonna Take It" against the rock and rollers...it's just so wrong. It'd be like Wall Street bankers singing Rage Against The Machine!
