First trailer for Steven Soderbergh's Haywire drops in

Gina Carano kicks ass

The first trailer for Steven Soderbergh's action thriller Haywire has shown up online.

Only hours ago, we were being wowed by footage from the prolific director's latest at Comic-Con.

The movie is bustling with generations of male acting talent, with a cast including (deep breath): Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender and Channing Tatum.

Come the end of this footage though, the person who's guaranteed to stick in your mind is MMA star Gina Carano, looking set to break out into the big leagues with this.

Studios often seem keen to secure another Bourne, and it looks like Soderbergh could deliver just that, with sinister agencies, super-trained assassins and frenetic action aplenty.

Check out the trailer immediately:

Soderbergh is always threatening to retire, but on the strength of this promo, we're hoping he can be persuaded to keep going for a few more years.

Haywire is set to open in the US on 20 January 2012. Soderbergh's other new film, Contagion, is due to arrive this October.

Has a new action icon been born? Is Soderbergh the busiest director working today? Air your opinions below!

This film looks good, strong cast, apart from one crucial think, the totally unconvincing lead actress. Seriously, why didn't they cast a woman who looks like she could handle herself. This girl looks like she'd break down and cry if she split a nail. And basically it's a Bourne rip-off anyway, with t**s.

Ahh. Well that explains the believability issue, she's clearly a really really s**t actress.

IMDB says this is rated PG. That can't be right. Anyway my only concern about this movie is if this MMA fighter has any acting chops. Cause apart from her the cast is amazing. Sorry to see that Fassbender gets killed off so quickly, they really shouldn't have showed that in the trailer. Oh yeah, and Soderbergh's not retiring after all.

Acting abilities of Ms Carano aside, this looks alright, glad to see Soderbergh hasn't retired just yet, although this does come across as a female Bourne ... not necessarily a bad thing. Her MMA creditials means she'll deliver the goods when it comes to the action, but perhaps leave the method thesping to the lads. I personally think the best fight will be between Carano and that thing attached to Banderas's face ... luckily though, they've left that out of the trailer, don't wanna spoil everything (lol) :)

I... agree... with Dalidabl... . Yeah Ron Perlman would be a great beast, but don't get how they'd make him handsome at the end :p Dalidab I don't think Gaston is actually in the original story, so we'll pretend you didn't just suggest Seagal for a role in a fairytale movie...

They'll be getting married next! And Ron Pearlman already has been a great Beast, back in the 80's, he was "Vincent" opposite Linda Hamilton's "Beauty" (matter of opinion), so he could potentially play an older version but they'd want someone young and handsome for the transformation scene at the end, surely? ... anyway, Haywire looks alright!!! :)

Wouldn't happen though, I don't look like a twelve year old boy so Dalidab wouldn't be interested. Phew.
