First trailer for The Wolverine: watch now

UPDATE: The US trailer features different footage

The first trailer for The Wolverine has finally been unveiled, and having waited for so long for the first footage to see the light of day, our excitement appears to have been well-founded.

The trailer introduces the audience to Wolvie’s new surroundings, as the story picks up with our hero a long way from home in Japan, and very stylish it looks too.

It seems as though romance is on the cards as Logan finds himself falling for a local girl and finally putting his obsession with Jean Grey behind him. Trouble is, his new beau is part of a powerful Yakuza crime family, with whom Logan is soon tangling.

Take a look at the new trailer, below:

UPDATE: The US version of the trailer features a fair bit of new footage. Watch it for yourself below:

It looks as though James Mangold has taken the character and made it his own, with the film seeming very much its own beast, as opposed to the latest in a long line of X-Men movies. Put simply, we can’t wait to see more.

Co-starring Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee and Rila Fukushima, The Wolverine will open in the UK on 26 July 2013.

What do you think of the new trailer? Tell us, below!

Can't watch the trailer yet, because I'm at work (SO frustrating!) but going by the text, that's exactly what a Wolvering film needs to be - it's own film. Seperate from X-Men the way Iron Man is seperate from The Avengers.

I don't think I'll know how good this is until I see it. I just can't tell from the trailer. Some bits looked cool, some like a scene from the Fantastic Four. Not enough ninjas, that's the problem! But he still looks convincing in the roll...I bet Dougray Scott still regrets doing MI2 instead of Xmen!

cool, i'm glad they're doing the whole ninja/japan thing with this one, and it looks like they're also incorporating the loss of healing power from the comics too. i always thought that it was proof of how interesting a character wolverine is by the fact that he kept his popularity even when he didn't have his super powers anymore. still, like i said before, a good trailer just means that they hired a good team to put the trailer together. i'll have to wait and see.

I'm glad they've taken away his healing factor in this film, one of the biggest problems with the character is that in X-Men 1, 2, 3 and Origins there's never a point where it looks he might lose, where he looks like he's in trouble. You know throughout each fight that the person he's fighting doesn't stand a chance, no matter how many times they shoot or stab him he'll just get back up like nothing happened. Now that he can actually get hurt and possibly die they'll be some form of tension.

Ok, so hows the 'not healing' thing going to effect his claws? Does that mean he's going to spend most of the film with bleeding knuckles?

Looks good...nice to se Logan with a different look also. The train scene looks a bit fake though...also reminds me of Skyfall and Spiderman 3
