First trailer for Wreck-It Ralph: watch now

Games geekery ahoy!

Wreck-It Ralph has released a first trailer online, in which John C. Reilly competes for space with some of the most iconic video-game characters ever created!

The new trailer tells the story of Ralph (Reilly), the villain of a popular, Donkey Kong-esque video game in which he perennially plays the stooge to the heroic Fix-It Felix (30 Rock's Jack McBrayer).

Tired of being unappreciated, Ralph is keen to try his hand at heroism, but when he begins hopping from game to game, he puts every machine in his arcade at risk from a dangerous virus.

Take a look at the new trailer below, and see how many video-game characters you can recognise. There are quite a few in there…

That villain support group scene is brilliant, isn't it? Alongside Zhangief and the Pac-Man ghost, we spotted M. Bison and Kano from Mortal Kombat, alongside seminal baddies Dr. Robotnik and Bowser. There's going to be plenty of nerd-pleasing fun to be had here, isn't there?

Co-starring Sarah Silverman and Jane Lynch and directed by Futurama's Rich Moore, Wreck-It Ralph will open in the UK on 15 February 2013. Plenty of time to dust off your old copy of Q-Bert, then...

Has this first trailer got you excited for Disney's latest? Tell us, below...

Does anyone else think it would be better if. rather than direct use of existing video game characters, they did homages of them instead? The bit with the zombie did make me laugh quite a lot though.

This looks brilliant, the support group but feels like it's saying "Hey Johnny, look at these guys, you've defeated a lot of these guys, why not watch a film about them?" And I'm replying with a big fat YES!! Just take my money Disney! Take it!

Looks like it's going to be a great film, will definitely be going to see this one! But then again, that was always going to be the case ever since I heard the words "Disney video-game movie"
