Neil Blomkamp's Elysium has released a first official TV spot, in which Matt Damon begins his advance on the futuristic upper-class sanctuary from which the film takes its name.
Set in the year 2159, the new film is set on an Earth in which two social classes exist: the super-wealthy inhabitants of the Elysium space station, and the poor unfortunates left on the ruined planet below.
Damon plays Max, a man desperately needing to gain access to Elysium, a task that's easier said than done thanks to the hard-line security enforced by Jodie Foster's Secretary Delacourt.
Take a look at the new teaser, below…
Mixing an interesting social premise with a hefty dose of action, this one looks every inch the worthy follow-up to Blomkamp's superlative District 9. And Elysium itself? Well as sci-fi futurescapes go, this one looks pretty special…
Directed by Blomkamp and co-starring Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga and Diego Luna, Elysium will open in the UK on 9 August 2013.
