Plot released for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus

Official synopsis for Alien prequel confirms some rumours

Fox has released a new brief description of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus and it seems to confirm some of the rumours about the Alien prequel's storyline.
A leaked synopsis that found its way on to the web suggested that a group of scientists working for Weyland-Yutani discover that life on Earth was created by beings from another planet.
Based on that information they head into space to discover the key to life and encounter an alien threat.
The following text appeared on the official Prometheus page:
“Ridley Scott, director of Alien and Blade Runner, returns to the genre he helped define. With Prometheus, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.”
For comparison here's the previous synopsis from back in June:
“Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.”
If you know your Greek mythology you'll be aware that Prometheus was a Titan who stole fire from the gods and had his liver eaten every day by a giant eagle as punishment.
Sounds like stealing the key to creation from humanity's makers might not be a great plan after all.
Prometheus opens on 1 June 2012.

Like the way the storyline ties into the Alien franchise as a whole? Or does this sound like shoehorning in a storyline to fit in between the other movies? Pull off that facehugger and tell us below!

You know, the plot isn't a million miles away from Alien Vs Predator (the first one). Doesn't sound terribly exciting Ridders I'm afraid.

The plot of Prometheus sounds very similar to an episode of Star Trek The Next Generation from Season 6 called 'The Chase'. Can anyone else remember this episode?

Sounds great. Sorry to those who are disappointed, but the premise for the original was an uninspiring by-the-numbers-slasher flic set in space, it was the tense mood, amazing performances and visionary direction that made it so brilliant.

The original Alien was as basic a story as you can get, but look what Ridley and the cast and the production team et all did with it ... sometimes you don't need an over complicated plot or convoluted storyline for it to be good. It sounds great to me, I like the idea of the Space Jockey aliens somehow having a hand in the creation of not only the Xenomorph species (which has been speculated already) but our very own too. Looking forward to this even more now. In Ridley I trust :)

This is a new alien film, what's not to like? I think it's in good hands with ridley directing. Only hope the story can live up to the franchise. It better be scary too.

@Croninja - Sounds like that episode how exactly? Are you talking about the one with Professor Gaellen and the DNA fragments from species all over the galaxy that made up a computer program telling everyone they should be friends because they all came from that one original species? Yep, you're right - exactly the same story. -sheesh Personally I'm looking forward to Prometheus, loved all the Alien films (well, Alien, Aliens and the first AVP -the rest are gash) and I'm pretty sure that Ridley Scott won't c**k it up. He made a right balls up of Robin Hood but hopefully this will be as good as the anticipation requires. 3D? Hell yeah, as long as it's FILMED in 3D, I'm there. Is it IMAX?
