Fox threatens to cancel The Simpsons

Worst contract negotiations ever…

20th Century Fox is threatening to cancel The Simpsons as part of current contract negotiations regarding the show’s 24th season.

Fox want cast members to take a 45% pay cut – going from 8 million dollars to 4 million a season – and are playing dirty, knowing full well that they can continue to make plenty of d'oh... sorry, 'dough', from the show via syndication deals.

Fox has claimed the cancellation scalps of thousands of amazing shows during Total Film’s lifetime – Arrested Development, Firefly, Futurama and The Tick to name but four – but we never thought we’d be reporting that they’re about to call time on The Simpsons.

Unlike those shows, it’s probably not going before its time, but we certainly expected America’s greatest ever sitcom to die with a little more dignity than this.

Still, maybe this'll lead to another Simpsons Movie. Or a McBain spin-off action flick. Well, we can dream can't we?

Sad to see The Simpsons go, or will you be glad to see the back of it? Tell us!

I know that it's nowhere near as good as it used to be but I honestly can't imagine much sadder than losing our beloved family! Fox have made casualties of far too many shows and need to cut it out!! Cancelling Arrested Development and Firefly were unspeakable crimes and now this?!? Philistines!

Maybe if they can get the actors to take a pay cut they can then spend more money on getting some better writers. The Simpsons hasnt been good for about 10 years now. Yet I still tune in every week in hope

The pay they are receiving now is the same as when the show was at its peak. Its ratings aren't as good and maybe the cast should take a pay cut. 45% is a little steep though.

45% is steep if they were making minimum wage, but c'mon they are still being left with over 4million dollars per year, No one needs that kind of money, they should accept it and be happy. If it ends none of them are gonna make that much money elsewhere.

It's not the actors' fault that the show isn't as good as it used to be, in fact the voice talents are as good as they've ever been. Axe the writers' pay!

Ummm.. the greatest ever American sitcom? I'm going to sit and corner and sob now. Maybe I'll watch some Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, Seinfield, or I Love Lucy to console me for living in a country where the stupid Simpsons is declared our greatest sitcom ever.
