Friday The 13th hacks into the US box office

$42.2 million is a lucky number for Jason…

The re-imagined take on Friday The 13th has shot straight to the top of the US box office this weekend, making a record $42.2 million during the first three days of the four-day President’s Day weekend across the pond.

Jason Voorhees' record haul will mean he snatches the R-rated movie opening record – and the low-budget slasher has already made its main production costs back.

Somewhere, the sequel has already been greenlit, and producer Michael Bay is having a poster boasting the box office figure commissioned for his office.

In its second week, He’s Just Not That Into got a welcome boost of Valentine’s Day traffic, making $19.6 million and holding out against both Taken (which showed sleeper hit legs with $19.2 million despite being out three weeks) and newcomer Confessions Of A Shopaholic, which could only manage $15. 4 million for fourth place.

Stop motion ‘toon Coraline, meanwhile, held up fairly well, slipping a couple of places to round out the top 5 with $15.3 million.

The only other new entry was The International, which slumped into seventh with $10 million.

Final figures will arrive tomorrow, but we doubt there’ll be a massive change.

Your top 10 then…
