Not impressed. Seems like the Hulk and Hawkeye are barely in it. The costume colors are a bit too vibrantly bold and unrealistic (not that realism is on the cards but Capt America looks stupid, makes me think Power Rangers) and I'm not exactly seeing major effort in the acting or drama to boot. "The Dark Knight Rises just got some serious competition"? Seriously? You wrote that? Idiots.

Hmmm - Hulk isn't in this trailer as they are still doing the CGI - same with the Skrulls. I liked the look of it - when I saw the new Captain America costume i thought it looked a tad sh!t. This trailer has gone some way to changing that. However considering this is directed by Whedon, and considering how much he loves his female characters (Buffy and Dolls House and Kitty Pryde in his X-Men run) I was a bit dissapointed to not see more of Black Widow. This won't beat the Dark Knight Rises but it's looking very promising.

To everyone who's saying "Oh there doesnt seem to be much of blah blah blah". this is 1:58 of a 2hr ++ movie. You can't slam it like that for including the heavy hitters for the majority of its advertising campaign. How are they going to get excitement across the masses if they focus the trailer on characters who haven't had their own prequels which is the huge thing about this movie. Its basically already had 4-5 feature length trailers building up to it

Come on guys, looks like it will be really good fun. Can't wait to see Tony Stark trying to get Banner to turn into the hulk. It'll be a completely different feel to Dark Knight and aim Thor fun (see what I did there).. So, Yeah there could be competition for best superhero flick of the summer.

To be fair the Dark Knight film has everything to lose. How can it be as good as the last Batman film, seriously? This (as has been pointed out) will probably be a bit of Iron Man 3 with the others thrown in. And that line "...we'll damn sure avenge it..." is very poor. It's the kind of thing Whedon is usually smart enough to take the mickey out of...I expect someone (if not Stark himself) extracts the urine immediately following that quip.

Looks amazing IMO! From the set photos I'd seen, Captain America's costume was the only thing I had slight reservations about, but judging from this trailer, I think it looks great on film! Between this and TDKR, next year should be a great year for comic book movies. I just hope TDKR gets a full trailer as well, by the end of the year. Can't wait to see both of them!

are they paying u to promote this film, total film? its an ok trailer of an ok movie. too flashy. i mean captain america looks like a joke, agree with siban it reminds me of power rangers as well, they can never match the serious dangerous tone of dark knight or rises. superman snaps are way better than this whole trailer. only loved samuel jackson and ruffalo, and where is hawkeye and black widow. robert and america are hamming it big time and hemsworth looks clueless. this will probably make a lot of money but its gonna be an okay film, its an insult to compare it with rises

Yawn! Look...big explosion! Listen...smart quip! Repeat... Judging from the trailer alone this looks everything Batman Returns, Superman Returns and Spiderman 2 were not, looking instead to have taken inspiration from the truly awful Spiderman 3. If you enjoy primary colors and lame quips then yes, this will be very well the best movie ever released. If however you want some substance to any movie then walk away...

"Packed with everything we hoped an Avengers trailer could deliver - and more. " ?????? How feeble must the your imaginations be??? Sorry, but seriously, while it's not poor in any way, all it does is show us the team plus a little banter. That's it. Nothing really new or particularly distinctive. Wow, you lot at Total Film are desperately easily pleased....

I have a feeling it will be disappointing, like Iron Man 2, but hoping for the pleasant surprise that was Thor, really enjoyed it....the cast are pretty good but still the film I can't wait to see is Dark Knight Rises, the cast alone is amazing, exciting, brilliant actors, and of course the Muppet Movie....but I have to wait til February.....shame on you Disney :-(

I'm with trist808, why does one have to be better than the other? All of you here will no doubt pay to see both at the cinema, so can't you just accept Whedon may pull one out the bag and bring what potentially could be a great movie.

Well that was great. You have to remember that this is the first teaser trailer (apart from the one that used the end of Captain America) and it does exactly what it should. For the people who commented on there being very little Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow, It's a teaser and they are in there. Also remember there will be other trailers (hopefully character specific ones like First Class). At 1.58 it packs a lot in. Huge explosions, guns, some Loki exposition and yes, Stark getting the witty lines. As it should be. Remember folks, it's just a trailer, not the whole film in 2 minutes. In fact, I hate (and am sure you do too) when they put so much into a trailer you feel like you've seen the best bits going in

SWEEEEEEEEEEEET! My eyes just melted with anticipation. It's obviously just a teaser, but at least it lives up to the name an actually TEASES. Joss Whedon is THE MAN, and he's gonna get this done right. Wish Hawkeye was featured a bit more, but the banter between Stark and the Cap, and Stark goading Hulk, with Thor just laughing in his jovial way, those are awesome dynamics to be shown JUST in the teaser. And Loki is a bad a*s villain, as those who have read the comics know. Cannot wait.=D

Well, besides Black Widow's standing thing when the explosion goes off (which looks incredibly stupid), this was great! Anyone comparing this to The Dark Knight Rises is misguided. Even if they were both equally good, which one is "better" would ultimately come down to a matter of taste. The Dark Knight and Iron Man defined two very distinct ways of making a superhero film: The Dark Knight went with serious drama, while Iron Man went more along the lines of just having a seriously good time. No style is "better" than the other, but I personally prefer The Dark Knight's style. (Although I enjoyed how Captain America was a nice mix of both fun and serious). Both movies are trying to do their own thing, and they could be equally great, but "better" is subjective.

With regards to the "only in cinemas" line, I believe that in America certain film titles are released now simultaneously at the cinema, but also on DVD and are available to download as well. I think they've had this for a few months now or it's recently started. So, I think this is stating that The Avengers will be a theatrical release only (after the usual four months you'll be able to get the DVD/Blu-Ray) but on it's inital release, it's just in cinemas. I have a feeling this will become more predominant on U.S. trailers from now on.

I have to agree with higgins78, this looks sooo average. Action cinema is far too much about size. Big CGI, big egos, but is almost always small on excitement and tension. I bet they all make it to the end to preserve the franchise. This will end up as nothing more than an advert for Avengers 2

Gotta say i dont see how any of them except Thor will fight Loki really...? Hes a god... what can two hard men (Hulk and Captain America), two gadgeted up soldiers (Hawkeye and Black Widow) and a genius in a metal suit(Iron Man) do against a god? I love the Iron Man films, i liked Thor, Captain America wasn't all that and neither was Hulk. The Thor Vs Loki should of just been the first Thor film, maybe they should of had one of the worlds from Thors universe invade Earth and then the Avengers could fight them off but against Loki no chance its too unrealistic and that is why The Dark Knight Rises has no competition its more realistic and its only got one hero in it Avengers needs all these and still wont beat it, i know i sound like a Marvel hater but i actually love the marvel films and will see avengers but i know il like The Dark Knight Rises more.
