Super 8 has finally got a full-length trailer (revealed via Twitter), and, frankly, it looks superb.
It's big news for anyone looking forward to J.J. Abrams’ mysterious new film, and the trailer finds time for plenty of character moments between the impressive explosions.
It still manages to tease, rather than spoil, but it gives a really clear indicator of where J.J. is heading with this one, and the pitch-perfect Spielbergian vibe really comes to the fore.
Check it out for yourself below:
Paramount have also released an official synopsis for the movie:
In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident.
Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.
J.J. Abrams’ third feature film as director, and his first since 2009’s well-received Star Trek, Super 8 looks set to tease us right up until its opening weekend. Which is fine by us.
Super 8 opens 19 August.

Another feel-good alien pic from Spielberg via his new pal J.J.? Feh. You'd think he'd had enough with Close Encounters, E.T., and War of the Worlds.

Classicism and atmosphere rather than lens flares and shaky-cam? This looks like it might just be the first J.J. Abrams film that doesn't irritate the t**s off me.

It just reeks of Spielberg's 80's work.

@sp4cej0ckey - It's from John Williams' Pinnochio-referencing Close Encounters score, isn't it? "When you wish upon a star.."

@sp4cej0ckey - Actually, on second thoughts it might be from James Horner's Coc**n soundtrack like the other music in the trailer. The main theme from that also referenced When You Wish Upon A Star too, I think. Reminds you what a great composer Horner used to be, and how moving movie soundtracks were in the 80s. I'll have to check YouTube and get back to you...
