Gareth Edwards posts first video from set of Godzilla

Production begins on the monster movie

Production is underway on Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla remake, with the director posting a welcome message online from the set.

There’s no actual footage of course, just a shot of Edwards introducing the project in what appears to be a Japanese airport, having just completed shooting the first scene of the movie.

“It went great” says Edwards, which is reassuring. Nothing appears to be smashed up in the background, so we can assume that the giant lizard hasn’t started his reign of terror just yet. Unless the next shot is him swatting a plane or something…

After months of exciting casting announcements, it’s good to see the shoot finally underway. Edwards appears cool and calm, although maybe that'll change when the giant-lizard carnage erupts...

Co-starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, David Strathairn, Juliette Binoche and Ken Watanabe, Godzilla will open in the UK on 16 May 2014.
