Gemma Arterton starring in Alien prequels?

Is meeting with Ridley Scott to discuss role

The Disappearance Of Alice Creed

Gemma Arterton could be taking up the hallowed position once occupied by Sigourney Weaver in Ridley Scott’s Alien prequels as the franchise’s new female action warrior.

While talking up Tamara Drewe with The Times, Arterton revealed that she’s planning on meeting with Scott about the grisly prequels – which Scott yesterday assured us would be “really nasty”.

Arterton reportedly caught the Gladiator director’s eye with her ball-busting performance in indie flick The Disappearance Of Alice Creed, and he requested a meeting with her.

“Ridley Scott saw Alice Creed and loved it,” Arterton says. “He wants me to meet for Aliens: The Remake, or something.”

Sure she’s off the mark with the remake comment, but it’s interesting to see where this project is going. Arterton may have given herself over to some decidedly budget-heavy dreck (Clash Of The Titans, Prince Of Persia), but she can handle herself in an action scene and knows how to reign it in.

Do you think she’d make a good Alien heroine? Talk to us below…

In cinemas this week…

This would be a terrible idea... unless she's in it for the opening 5 minutes then gets devoured

Any dumb actress who says "Aliens : The remake or Something?" does not deserve to be a part of the franchise. If she serious has no clue then she should walk away now, if she does know and was just trying to be funny - STOP. As a fan I found that quite disrespectful.

"Aliens: The Remake or something" brilliant - she's a down to earth lass with good sense of humour. Great actress too. I imagine the prequel to follow the same format as Alien where you're not too sure (on first viewing) who is gonna make it, if anyone. Arterton will no doubt get wasted at some point clearing the way for Noomie Rapace to kick all kinds of xenomorph a*s.

I wouldn't mind but she sounds like Janeway from the first couple of seasons of Voyager. Plus: Space is big. Would it kill to invent a new threat/monster franchise? I've been watching Aliens grimace and drool into the camera for 30 years now. The impact has gone.

Shes so posh, she makes Keira Knightly sound like Bianca from Eastenders, hows she suppose to fit in with a bunch of truckers? To paraphase Bill Bailey from Tinselworm..she always looks like she realised she left the back door open

Hadouken76 - not sure if anyone's confirmed that it will be space truckers that will be the unfortunates on the menu. Could very well be some Astro-Scientists or what have you, they tend to have posh accents so all could be well.

Maybe she could play some kind of space hooker wearing next to nothing. Lovely a**e. Otherwise let her brains be eaten by zenomorphs!!!!!

She's beautiful and a great actress, I would welcome it no problem. Sigourney was hardly a well known actress when she got the role of Ripley, I think she was more of a model with some theatre work on the side. Her presense will hardly ruin the film! As for those who can't stand the thought of her being in the film who would you like to see in a lead female role? I'd like to see (depending on the role) Marion Cotillard following her great performance in Inception or Anne Hathaway.
