It’s dodgy territory, this Hollywood horror remake malarkey. When Tinseltown fiddles with recent blood-spatterers from the Far East, it can be a tad dicey; but re-hashing a classic ‘80s melon-twister like The Hitcher is brave… very brave.
Sean Bean steps into the well-worn shoes of Rutger Hauer as John Ryder, the murderous, carless road-trotter on a mission. Here his prey are a couple called Grace and Jim (Sophia Bush and Zachary Knighton), who find out that giving Ryder a lift ranks right up there on the good ideas list with laughing at Joe Pesci.
