A new trailer has arrived for Girl In Progress, in which Eva Mendes plays a single mother struggling to adhere to the responsibilities of bringing up her teenage daughter.
Having been abandoned by her mother during her own teenage years, Mendes struggles to break the cycle, as she spends more time mucking about with a married Matthew Modine than she does with daughter Cierra Ramirez.

Granted, the trailer makes is all seem a little paint-by-numbers, what with the uplifting pop soundtrack and familiar character archetypes (reckless mother, precocious daughter, saintly teacher), but the cast is of a high calibre, and newcomer Ramirez looks to be something of a find.
The film arrives in the US on 27 April, with a UK release date yet to be confirmed. Fans of heartwarming life lessons should keep those fingers crossed it makes it across the pond…
