Starbucks moving into movies

Not content with merely being the world's biggest coffee shop chain, Starbucks is putting its beans behind the movie industry.

Akeelah And The Bee is the new drama from indie director Doug Atchison (The Pornographer) about a penniless girl from LA who has a talent for spelling.

Starbucks has signed up to promote the movie via previews, promotions and flogging the flicks soundtrack.

In the past, the chain has linked up with the music world to promote warblers such as Bob Dylan and Alanis Morissette to sell CDs but this deal is the first of its kind for a restaurant/coffee shop chain.

The movie itself boasts a cast including What's Love Got To Do With It star Angela Bassett and Matrix bad-ass Laurence Fishburne. Akeelah And The Bee will hit cinemas later this year.
