Guillermo Del Toro recruits the Champions

He’ll write and direct an adaptation of the ‘60s TV series

Here’s one we really weren’t expecting – Guillermo Del Toro has decided to adapt the lesser known ‘60s TV show Champions.  It’s a bit of a departure for the director, who’s better known for his fantasy epics and the likes of Hellboy, but we’re convinced he can do a good job.

Champions was birthed by that bastion of ‘60s action adventure shows ITC in 1968, and created by Monty Berman and Dennis Spooner. The plot featured three secret government agents (played by Stuart Damon, Alexandra and William Gaunt) who are saved from a plane crash and given superhuman abilities.

United Artists is laying down the cash for Del Toro to write and direct a movie version of the show, which he’ll no doubt add to the incredible number of films bubbling away in his development pot.
